For the first time, the Hats Off to Dr. Seuss! touring exhibition presents Ted Geisel’s hats within the context of his artistic imagery with particular focus on artworks influenced and inspired by his hat collection.

Few authors are better known than Theodor Seuss Geisel, a.k.a. Dr. Seuss, yet, to this day, his Secret Art and his fantastical Hat Collection are virtually unknown to the general public. Throughout his lifetime, Ted Geisel created paintings and collected hats, which he secreted away in the same hidden closet located in his La Jolla home.

This exhibition is comprised of twenty six original hats from Dr. Seuss’s estate, alongside authorized Estate Editions adapted and reproduced from Ted Geisel’s original artworks. Exhibitions such as this continue to highlight Geisel’s profound artistic talent and important position within 20th century American art.
